Prologue

The room was dark, save for the faint glow of moonlight streaming through the curtains. The air was thick with tension, a palpable charge that seemed to hum between them. Aravi stood with her back against the wall, her breaths coming in short, uneven bursts. Her heart raced as Vyom closed the distance between them, his eyes burning with an intensity that made her knees weaken.

"You think you can run from me?" Vyom's voice was low, dangerous, sending a shiver down her spine. He was so close now that she could feel the heat radiating from his body, his scent—a mix of sandalwood and danger—filling her senses.

"I... I didn't mean to—" she began, but her words faltered as his hand came up to rest against the wall beside her, caging her in. His other hand tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze.

"Don't lie to me, Aravi," he said, his voice a whisper that carried the weight of a command. "You don't belong anywhere else. You know that."

Her lips parted, but no words came out. The fire in his eyes was overwhelming, a storm that threatened to consume her. And then, just as his lips brushed against hers, the faintest of touches that sent a jolt through her entire being—

A knock at the door shattered the moment, and they both froze. Vyom's eyes darkened further, his jaw tightening as he stepped back. Aravi's heart pounded in her chest as she tried to catch her breath, her mind reeling from what had just happened—and what might have happened if they hadn't been interrupted.

"Leave," Vyom barked at whoever was on the other side of the door, his voice like ice. But the interruption had already done its damage, leaving behind a tension that hung thick in the air, a moment suspended in time, unfinished and unresolved.
